New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has taken several actions in recent weeks to strengthen statewide Ebola preparedness, and a number of resources are now available for hospitals and healthcare facilities.
PPE Inventory Reporting
As part of an ongoing effort to assess healthcare system readiness, DOH requested that hospitals report Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inventory counts through a one-time SMART survey. The survey focused on available quantities of N95 respirators, masks, gloves, and gowns. A copy of the survey is available for reference. For questions about network-level reporting or submission, contact DOH at hospinfo@health.ny.gov.
Webinar Recording and Slides Now Available
On June 2, 2026, NYSDOH held a webinar for hospitals on Ebola preparedness, covering current developments and recommendations for healthcare providers. The webinar recording and presentation slides are now available on the Ebola and Marburg Virus Information for Health Care Providers, Facilities, and Laboratories page on the NYSDOH website, along with additional resources.
Dear Administrator Letters (DALs)
DOH issued two Dear Administrator Letters (DALs) related to Ebola preparedness:
- Hospital Preparedness Actions — Outlines steps hospitals should take to prepare for potential Ebola patients, including recommendations for screening, isolation procedures, staff readiness, and maintaining adequate PPE supplies. A provider poster for display within healthcare facilities is included.
- Decedent Management Guidance — Provides guidance for hospitals and funeral directors on the management and handling of remains. Because Ebola-related protocols differ from standard procedures, facilities should review this guidance carefully and ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place.
Updated EMS Transportation Guidance
Updated guidance has been released for high-consequence infectious disease transportation operations. Facilities and EMS personnel should review the updated guidance document from NYSDOH.
